God Keeps His Word

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" Numbers 23:19

God is faithful to keep His promises.  Webster’s dictionary defines faithfulness as something that is true or trustworthy. You might hear someone say “he’s a faithful servant” or “she was faithful to keep her agreement.” Few things are more quickly taken for granted than God's faithfulness but few things are more important. It’s fascinating how many times in the Scriptures that you encounter these little reminders that God is faithful to do what He says He will do. It’s like the Holy Spirit, knowing that humans like us are frail, wanted to reassure us that our Father in Heaven knows what He is doing.

Paul said about Jesus Christ in Colossians 1:17, “And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” The word consist means to hold together. From science class, we remember that with each atom in the universe, the nucleus is packed with protons, which all try and repel each other. You can see this law in action if you try and hold two magnets together by their positive poles. What you get is a force that repels. But if you line up the opposite ends, positive to negative, you will find that they attract. Now, the force it takes to hold the nucleus of an atom together is so strong, that if you disrupt the nucleus and split it, a nuclear explosion takes place. Think of all the matter in the universe and all the atoms it takes to make up that matter. How much force or power is needed to keep it all together? Jesus is holding it all together!

This is the power we need in our lives, for Jesus to hold everything together, our church, our families, even us individually.  It is Jesus who holds it, for by Him all things consist. If He can hold all that, what makes you think He can’t take care of your needs? O you of little faith! He holds all things together. By Him all things consist.

In Joshua 23:14 we read that in his old age, Joshua wanted God’s people to know that God is faithful and that God keeps His word. He said, “And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed.” The word failed is “naphal” in the Greek and means to fall or to drop something accidentally. The Lord has never failed or accidentally dropped anything and He has done all that He said He would do.

Whenever mankind stops believing in the faithfulness of the Lord, sin always follows, and sin is followed by worshipping and serving false gods. Whatever you put your trust in, whatever you love and seek after can be like a god.  Whatever people elevate above the place of God in their lives becomes a god to them.

If there is anything in your life today that has taken the place of God in your life, get rid of it or else you run the risk of being vulnerable. Remember, God is faithful to His promises and He longs to be in fellowship with you today.

God is Awesome

"You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame."  Joel 2:26

It is difficult at best to try and understand just how awesome God truly is.  For me, the subject inspires both awe and wonder. David writes in Psalm 8:3-4: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?”

Have you spent much time thinking about your life? What and who are you really? It seems like time is passing so fast, and soon, like a vapor, it disappears. It’s like when you boil water, steam begins to form, and because it is lighter than air it rises. But soon it diffuses into the surrounding air, and then it’s no longer detectable. Man’s life is like a vapor, like a shadow. Yet God is mindful of you and me! Now, if our lives are so transitory, it helps to know that God never changes. To me, that makes Him awesome!

Hey, if you want to know just how awesome God is, look at the things He has made. Have you ever considered the complexity of the human body? I am amazed at the superior design to the human brain, as it controls and regulates all the systems of the body. The nervous system with it’s miles and miles of nerves connecting organs and limbs back to the brain so it can report vital information and status of those parts. Have you considered the human reproductive system, and all the intricate happenings within the body as new life is created in the womb?

In Psalm 139:13-16, we read: “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.”

God is awesome because of his plan of salvation for mankind. In Psalm 111:9 the bible says that “He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name.”

Now, why provide this plan of salvation? John 3:16-18 tells us the reason: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” Why? Because He loves you so much!

Yes, God is awesome! We are encouraged tell the world the truth about God’s awesome acts! Psalm 145:6, “Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness.” Evangelism is so simple. Just begin to speak of how awesome the Lord is and point others to His creation, and complexity of the human body, and God’s plan to redeem mankind. He is so awesome!
